Since October 2024, Wepoba Wellpappenfabrik has been part of the Berlin plus 5 energy efficiency network, enabling the Panther Group company not only to make an important contribution to achieving Germany's climate and energy policy goals, but also to position itself in an important socio-political context.
The Energy Efficiency Network Berlin plus 5 is part of the Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection Networks initiative, an action alliance between the German government and 21 associations and organisations from German industry. The initiative offers participating companies a sector-specific and cross-sector exchange of experience as well as funding programmes to enable them to successfully plan and implement economic investments in energy efficiency on a solid data basis.
The aim of the initiative is to have established 300 to 350 new networks with uniform minimum standards throughout Germany by the end of the year. The establishment of the networks is based on the agreement on the introduction of energy efficiency networks, which was signed in 2014 by representatives of the German government and the leading associations and organisations of the German economy.
The exchange within the networks helps participating companies to fulfil legal obligations, such as the energy audit obligation and the Energy Efficiency Act, more easily. Network companies commit to setting an individual savings target, which is reviewed with the help of annual monitoring. The initiative aims to save a total of 120,000 MWh/a of final energy by August 2026 through energy efficiency and climate protection measures.
