Climate targets firmly on the agenda: Panther Group joins Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
Since the Panther Group was founded 120 years ago, it has been on a continuous path of development, based on the manufacture and conversion of corrugated board. Sustainability has always been an integral part of the corporate strategy. The commitment now made by the Group, and thus the achievement of the defined goals, is further proof of this commitment. The SBTi (www.sciencebasedtargets.org), supported by the CDP/Carbon Discloser Project, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute/WIR and the WWF, encourages companies in setting ambitious emission reduction targets in line with the latest climate science findings. It defines and promotes best practices in science-based goal setting, provides resources and guidance to remove barriers to adoption, and independently assesses and approves organizations' goals.
Responsibility and innovation go hand in hand
With a long-term orientation, the Panther Group always strives to make a contribution to the protection and preservation of the environment (soil, air and water) and to specifically minimize its own CO2 footprint. This includes the effects of the products on the CO2 emissions of the entire value chain from raw material production to corrugated board production and processing to delivery to the customer. Along these lines, the Panther Group is striving to reduce and substitute high-emission drivers - while maintaining and increasing the quality of the products. Measures with targets up to the year 2050 have been defined, taking into account the respective circumstances of individual locations. This includes the fact that the entire Panther Group has been using CO2-neutral electricity since 2021, which is only one example. Current comparative figures show that the Panther Group has always succeeded in reducing emissions. This is the success of a wide variety of measures, from the commissioning of the most modern machines, optimized logistics and the conscious use of energy and materials.
By joining the SBT initiative, the Panther Group demonstrates its awareness of the need to take action. A look into the future shows that emissions must be reduced as quickly as possible.
