Südwestkarton strengthens die-cutting capacities again

Südwestkarton GmbH & Co. KG, based in Illingen is logically continuing its investment strategy and has added another flatbed die-cutter to strengthen its machine fleet. This high-end die-cutter is especially suitable for fabricating high-quality transport and sales packaging, and expands the previous die-cutting facilities.

The new flatbed die-cutter has a fully automatic sheet feeder, a power register for sheet alignment with minimum tolerances at the sheet insertion point, and an electronic steering and control unit. The die-cutter is suitable for almost all corrugated board qualities and processes sheet formats from a minimum of 520 x 730 mm to a maximum of 1,300 x 2,100 mm for flute types E- to BC-flute.

The large-format flatbed die-cutter operates together with a fully automatic robotic palletiser, which can palletise all required stacking patterns. The machine line’s periphery, with tool storage and transport in a cassette system, also has a layout designed for ergonomic efficiency and high productivity. It processes up to 7,000 sheets/hour fully automatically and at the highest level from input feeder to palletising. An integrated camera monitoring system allows the die cuts to be verified. The highest precision is achieved, with an internal order memory for up to 20,000 articles.

Following the commissioning of a new rotary die-cutter in the Panther plant in Illingen in recent months, this addi-tional flatbed die-cutter has now been installed and successfully brought into operation. In April, the folder-gluer will be upgraded by adding a Silicone Paper Applicator and a Tear Strip Applicator for online retail & e-commerce packaging solutions. The renewal of the central palletiser system for finished goods, which is scheduled for the middle of the year, represents additional measures to optimise productivity and quality.

All the new plants are designed for precision and have a highest level of automation, e.g. prefeeders, storage palletising and robotic palletising, which stresses the aim of being a competent, flexible, agile partner for all customers. Total investment for the measures is over EUR 12 million.
