First sod cut for world first New factory for Panther Print in Wustermark

On July 14 last, the first sod was cut for the latest production facility to be built by the Panther Packaging Group. With a new plant for the company division of paper finishing and print, the company is increasing its commitment in the Berlin-Brandenburg region and is setting up an independently managed preprint plants in the direct vicinity of the Wepoba Wellpappenfabrik and Panther Display in Wustermark.

The new building, which will boast a roofed area of 5,200 m², will accommodate the world’s fastest and widest directly-driven flexo-preprint machine. The building will be erected on a site covering approximately 15,000 m² and will have sufficient scope for the future installation of additional printing presses.

The machine specified by Panther and manufactured by Bobst is the world’s first directly driven 8-colour+varnish flexo-preprint machine featuring a printing width of 2.8 metres. It also boasts a maximum printing speed of 600 m/min. Previously achieved speeds topped out at 460 m/min. and printing widths at 2.5 metres. In addition, the plant will be equipped with a new and innovative set-up system which will be significantly faster and more productive than previous systems. Furthermore, it will feature a smartGPS system which will considerably shorten set-up times.

Depending on the given order mix, the printing capacity of this preprint plant is quoted as approximately 200 million square metres per year. The investment amounts to approximately 17 million Euros.

With this printing-press innovation, the Panther Group is again setting new standards in flexo preprinting in conjunction with Fischer & Krecke, after Panther had already revolutionised preprint with a working width of 2.5 metres back in the early nineteen eighties.

Following investments in flexo postprinting and in offset and digital printing, Panther Packaging aims with this new and pioneering flexo-postprint company to further consolidate its leading position in the field of superior-quality printed packaging and thereby further underpin the strengths of the Panther Group.

The critical factors leading to the decision in favour of the Wustermark site were the substantial synergy effects generated by the proximity of the Wepoba Wellpappenfabrik and Panther Display. Panther Display and Wepoba specialise in the manufacture of sales material made from corrugated board, though with differing production focuses. While Wepoba supplies transport packaging and classic standard displays, the performance spectrum of Panther Display is focussed mainly on superior quality and creative design in its displays and sales-promotion materials. From Wustermark, Panther Print will supply Panther sister companies and other buying groups from Germany and the rest of Europe.
